Frequently asked questions
General information
What languages are classes taught in?
Navon is a bilingual kindergarten: children pick up Hebrew and Russian at the same time. An English club also runs alongside.
Where is Navon located?
The kindergarten is located at 19 Ani Maamin St, Haifa, Israel.
What are the kindergarten’s hours?
The kindergarten operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 to 17:00.
What clubs and activities does the kindergarten offer?
Hebrew, Russian, and English, rhythm and music, sports, puppet theater, animal encounters, and an arts studio — all included in the price.
How small are the groups?
We deliberately keep groups small so every child gets real attention from staff, not just supervision. For the exact group size this year, please check with our office at 04-866-0067.
How many staff members work with each group?
Every group has more than one staff member with it, which means continuous supervision and attention for every child throughout the day. For the exact staffing for a specific age group, please check with our office.
Does the kindergarten teach reading and writing, or prepare children for school?
We focus on well-rounded development — fine motor skills, drawing, and modeling all build the foundation for writing later on. More focused school-readiness work begins in the older groups; ask your child’s teachers for specifics.
Is English a separate paid class or part of the regular program?
English is part of the standard program and is already included in tuition — just like rhythm and music, sports, puppet theater, and animal-care activities. There’s no separate fee for these classes.
How much does a place at Navon cost?
Cost depends on your child’s age and the chosen program, and part of it may be covered by the Ministry of Labor subsidy. For an exact quote for your situation, please contact our office at 04-866-0067.
What language do staff speak with the children during the day?
Staff speak with the children in both Hebrew and Russian throughout the day, so children naturally absorb both languages side by side, rather than through separate single-language «lessons.»
Does Navon support children with special needs?
We try to accommodate each child’s individual needs. If your child has specific needs, please discuss this with our office in advance — we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer in your particular case.
What if we speak a language at home other than Hebrew or Russian?
That’s not a problem — children adapt quickly to the kindergarten’s bilingual environment regardless of their home language. Let the staff know about your family’s language situation so they can find the right approach for your child.
Enrollment & documents
From what age does Navon accept children?
Navon accepts children from 3 months to 5 years old. A nursery group runs for the youngest children.
How do I book a tour or enroll?
Message us on WhatsApp at 058-557-8857 or call — we’ll show you around, tell you about the program, and answer all your questions.
What documents do I need to enroll my child?
The full checklist is in our guide, “Documents needed to enroll in kindergarten”: parents’ ID documents, the child’s birth certificate, a health certificate, and vaccination record.
Can we visit before deciding to enroll?
Of course. We’re always happy to show you around, introduce you to the staff, and walk you through the program before you decide. Message us on WhatsApp or call to arrange a time that works for you.
Can I enroll my child mid-year?
Yes — enrollment is open year-round, not just in September. If there’s a spot open in the right age group, we can welcome your child any month. Call 058-557-8857 to check current availability.
What’s the difference between a municipal kindergarten and a private one?
They differ in subsidy terms and waiting lists — Navon is private, with a Ministry of Labor subsidy. Full comparison in our guide, “Municipal kindergarten or private daycare”.
Do I need a vaccination record to enroll?
Yes — enrollment requires a vaccination record and a pediatrician’s health certificate for your child. This is a standard part of the document package; see our guide, “Documents needed to enroll,” for the full list.
From what age can a baby join the nursery group?
From 3 months old, with an especially gentle routine for the youngest. More in our guide, “What age to start daycare”.
What if there’s no open spot in the right group right now?
We can add you to the waiting list for the matching age group and reach out as soon as a spot opens up. Call 058-557-8857 to check current availability.
Can we transfer our child to Navon mid-year from another kindergarten?
Yes, transferring from another facility is possible at any point during the year, as long as there’s an open spot in the right age group. We’ll help you handle the paperwork for the transfer.
Food & safety
What do the children eat?
The kindergarten has its own in-house kitchen. All meals are prepared by cooks shortly before eating, from quality seasonal ingredients; the menu is balanced for the child’s age.
How safe is the kindergarten?
The premises are under constant security with video surveillance, and parents have access to private parking. Children are supervised throughout the day.
What if my child has an allergy or special dietary needs?
Please let our office and staff know in advance. Because we run our own kitchen, we can accommodate each child’s dietary needs — just tell us about any allergies or restrictions when you enroll.
Are sanitary standards and staff requirements maintained?
Yes — our staff meets the required standards, and the premises are cleaned and maintained regularly as part of our responsibility for children’s safety.
What happens if my child feels unwell during the day?
Staff will contact you right away and, if needed, provide first aid and call a doctor. Please make sure your phone is reachable during your child’s hours at the kindergarten.
Is the food at Navon kosher?
Please check this directly with our office at 04-866-0067 — they can explain exactly how meals are organized at the kindergarten.
Payment & subsidies
Can I get a subsidy toward tuition?
Yes. Navon is the first bilingual kindergarten in Israel eligible for a Ministry of Labor subsidy (up to ₪1,226 a month). Staff help with the paperwork.
Is there a discount for families with more than one child at Navon?
We try to accommodate families with several children — please raise this directly with our office at 04-866-0067 so we can work out what fits your situation.
Who qualifies for the Ministry of Labor subsidy, and how do I apply?
Salaried employees, self-employed workers, students, new immigrants, and single parents earning under ₪5,300 per family member. How to apply — see our guide, “Childcare subsidies in Israel”, and our Discounts page.
If we decide to withdraw our child, is there a notice period?
Yes, a notice period typically applies when ending enrollment — check the exact terms in your contract or with our office at 04-866-0067.
Are there additional benefits for new immigrants beyond the Ministry of Labor subsidy?
There may be additional support options depending on your family’s specific situation — talk to our office and we’ll help you figure out what you may be eligible for.
Daily life & adaptation
What does the daily routine look like?
Drop-off and morning exercise from 7:00, breakfast at 8:30, activities and a morning walk, lunch and quiet time, and after nap — a snack, games, and a walk. Pickup by 17:00.
How does the adaptation period work?
Gentle and individualized, with the time gradually increasing. Week-by-week breakdown in our guide, “Adjusting to kindergarten: the first weeks”.
How will I know how my child’s day went?
Our staff stays in regular contact with parents and shares how the day went at pickup. If you need to check in during the day, you can call or message us — we’re always reachable.
Do I need to bring diapers and a change of clothes?
Yes — diapers, wet wipes, and a change of clothes. Full checklist in our guide, “What to pack for kindergarten”.
Can I pick up my child earlier or later than the standard hours?
The kindergarten operates from 7:00 to 17:00. If you need an earlier pickup or a later one, please check with our office — we accommodate this whenever we can.
What is my child’s first day at kindergarten like?
Short and gentle, without diving straight into the full routine. More in our guide, “First day at kindergarten”.
Can my child bring a favorite toy from home?
Yes, and we actually recommend it — especially in the first few weeks. A favorite item from home reminds your child of safety and makes it easier to handle being apart from you.
What if my child cries and doesn’t want to let go of me in the first days?
That’s a normal part of adaptation. Say goodbye calmly and confidently, without dragging it out — it’s easier for your child to move on that way. Our staff know how to gently support your child in the first minutes after you leave.
How does adaptation go for older children who already attended another kindergarten?
It usually goes faster than for children with no prior experience, since they’re already familiar with the format. But a new place and new people still take some getting used to — we keep the same individual approach either way.
Can a grandparent or other relative pick up my child instead of us?
Yes, but please let the staff know in advance who exactly will be picking up your child — this is a standard safety measure.
What if I’m running late to pick up my child?
Please call ahead to let us know if you’ll be delayed, so staff can calmly plan the time with your child until you arrive.
Events & getting in touch
Is the kindergarten open in summer and on public holidays?
Navon stays open year-round, including through the summer, which matters for parents who need continuous childcare. On public and Jewish holidays the kindergarten may close for a few days — check the current schedule on our Calendar page.
What’s the fastest way to get an answer to an urgent question?
The fastest way is to message us on WhatsApp at 058-557-8857 — we respond quickly. You can also call 04-866-0067 during the kindergarten’s operating hours.
Does the kindergarten hold celebrations and events for parents?
Yes — throughout the year we celebrate holidays and hold events that parents are invited to, which is part of Navon’s warm, family atmosphere. Check the Calendar page for current dates.
Are there security cameras parents can view online?
The kindergarten has video monitoring for safety. For details on parent access to any footage, please check directly with our office at 04-866-0067.
Does the kindergarten take photos of children and share them with parents?
Yes, everyday moments and celebrations are often photographed, and some of these photos end up in our site gallery. Ask your child’s teachers about photos specific to your child.
How does my child move up to the next age group?
The move to the next group happens gradually and takes the individual child’s readiness into account, not just their formal age. Staff will discuss this with you in advance.
Can we bring our child to a kindergarten celebration before enrolling?
Check with our office at 058-557-8857 — this can sometimes be a great way to get to know the kindergarten before you enroll.
